Elects Sean David Williams As New Chief Executive Officer

The International Public Relations Research Conference (IPRRC), recognized globally as one of the top venues for presentation of innovative PR research and for interaction among scholars and professionals, has announced that Sean David Williams has been named chief executive officer to lead the organization.

Williams was elected by the IPRRC Board following a search conducted by members of the Board. He will succeed Dr. Don W. Stacks, Professor Emeritus, University of Miami, a recognized scholar in public relations research who in 1996 created IPRRC with the support of leading corporate and agency practitioners.

Following the 2022 IPRRC Annual Conference in Orlando, Fla., Stacks in March announced his retirement as president after guiding the organization for 25 years.

Williams, an IPRRC Board Member for the past six years, is recognized as an educator and practitioner. He is Assistant Teaching Professor of Media and Communication at Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio, and served for eight years as Adjunct Instructor in Public Relations at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio.

Aa a practitioner, Williams served as a communications executive with The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Akron, Ohio; and National City Bank and KeyCorp, both of Cleveland, Ohio. On the agency front, he also served with Joe Williams Communications, Bartlesville, Okla., and True Digital Communications, Cleveland,

For eight years, Williams also was CEO and Founder of a Cleveland-based consultancy, Communication AMMO.

Regarding his new leadership role, Williams said, “For 25 years, IPRRC has been a vital part of not only research in professional communication, but a source of important scholarship in and for the practice of public relations and associated disciplines. Continuing this work for the coming generation of leaders requires committed new leadership. I believe I’m uniquely qualified to provide it, and I’m honored to be selected.”
